The Basics

Both large and local tournaments have benefits. Deciding which to attend depends on your team’s goals and resources.

Large Tournaments

  • Pros:
    • Exposure to teams from different regions and styles.
    • High-energy atmosphere with top-level competition.
    • Opportunities for players to gain experience on a big stage.
  • Cons:
    • Expensive and time-consuming (travel, hotels, fees).
    • Can feel overwhelming for younger players.

Local Tournaments

  • Pros:
    • Affordable and close to home.
    • Familiar environment helps players stay comfortable.
    • Great for building team chemistry without extra stress.
  • Cons:
    • Limited variety in competition.
    • May not provide the same “big game” experience.

Bottom Line

Mixing both types can be the perfect strategy. Local tournaments are great for practice, while larger ones offer new challenges and growth opportunities. At Possible FC, our balanced approach to tournaments has resulted in notable successes. For example, during a recent season, our teams participated in a combination of small local tournaments and a large regional event. The local tournaments allowed us to strengthen team chemistry and test out new strategies in a low-pressure environment. Meanwhile, the large event exposed our players to a higher level of competition, challenging them to rise to the occasion and showcasing their development.

This dual strategy not only prepares players for varied challenges but also builds their confidence. By carefully selecting tournaments, we ensure our players are continuously learning and growing, while still enjoying the game and celebrating their hard work.
